Boston’s Matt Poskay Selected as MLL’s Offensive Player of the Year

18 Aug

Boston, Mass. (August 17, 2010) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced Tuesday that Boston Cannons’ attackman Matt Poskay has been selected as the 2010 Warrior Offensive Player of the Year, according to MLL Commissioner David Gross. The award was based on the votes submitted by the head coaches and general manager of each of the League’s six teams.

2010 Matt Poskay Highlights:

Poskay, a 2006 graduate of the University of Virginia, enjoyed the finest season of his MLL career in 2010. After moving from midfield to attack at the start of the season Poskay scored a league leading 45 goals in 12 games. The 45 goals were 20 more than Long Island’s Matt Danowski who finished second in the MLL with 25. Poskay also led the league with 52 points.

Team England Playing Lacrosse Dodgeball (video)

15 Jul

Check out this video of Team England in practice before the FIL World Games in Manchester, England.  These dudes are crazy.  They’re playing “lacrosse dodgeball”!  I’m not sure if they’re insane, stupid, or tough – but either way, it’s highly entertaining.

Be sure to check out LacrossePlayground for more great World Lacrosse Championship coverage.

2010 MLL All-Star Game Freestyle Competition Video Highlights

9 Jul

The MLL All-Star game was a huge success last night as Team USA squeezed out a victory in the closing seconds in a back and forth battle between the two star-studded teams.

The All-Star Skills Competition always gets a lot of attention, as fans are always fired up to see who has the hardest shot (Paul Rabil, 111mph), and to see what the tricks the players will pull out in the freestyle competition.   Last year Queener dominiated with his “Michael Jackson Thriller” dance (watch the video here).

This year’s competition seemed a little weaker, with many contestants appearing unprepared and having trouble getting the ball in the net.  There isn’t any good footage available yet, so this one will have to do.  You’ll probably want to mute out the annoying techno music while viewing (unless you like techno)…

MLL: Mike Leveille Crazy Ground Ball and Goal (video)

6 Jul

Check out this snappy ground-ball pick-up by Mike Leveille that led to a goal for the Chicago Machine. It happens pretty fast, but the slow motion replay displays it perfectly. This play earns our vote for the best goal of the MLL season so far.
