LXM Pro Tour Lacrosse Showcase Launches in Cali on Nov. 21st
7 Oct
The LXM Pro Tour website has been updated, and they have scheduled their debut for November 21st in Orange County, CA.
We’ve been following the latest news on the LXM Pro Tour ever since it was rumored back in July. Since then not many details have been released, and their website reveals very limited information.
In August, we posted all the details we could dig up online to try and piece together just exactly what this event entailed. Since then, the LXMPro.com website has been updated to announce that their first event has been slated for next month, and will feature the following:
- LXM PRO features a “Showcase” lacrosse game highlighting the 40 best players in the world, an MCLA game featuring powerhouse Chapman vs. UCSB, live comedy and a BLOWOUT concert event featuring today’s hottest artists.
- The combination of these unique elements, along with other engaging sponsor-themed activations, creates an “X-Games” meets “Lollapalooza” atmosphere in a new Festival-themed sports and entertainment event.
- LXM PRO also features an on-the-field casting call searching for fresh athletic-actors to cast in upcoming Hollywood productions, Paula Abdul and her “Dance team” tryouts, LAX clinics, and much more entertainment through the day.
Not really any surprises, since day 1 this concept was dubbed “lacrosse meets music”. What we’re interested in who will be representing the “40 best players in the world”, and what kind format they will be playing in. So far we have been unable to find any details on the lax part of it, but we will post them as soon as we find out.
2009 Catamount Classic: Lacrosse for a Cure
29 Sep
In 2007 a student and member of the men’s lacrosse team at the University of Vermont was diagnosed with testicular cancer. With a treatment plan from Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and incredible strength and determination the player is in full remission.
After seeing how this disease can affect someone and the people that care about them, the University of Vermont head lacrosse coach Ryan Curtis and his wife Kelly Curtis started the Catamount Classic as a way to raise awareness and money for fighting testicular cancer.
In 2008 the tournament attracted over 2,000 fans and raised over $20,000 and all proceeds were donated to testicular cancer research at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The University of Vermont Men’s Lacrosse Team raised money throughout the year to donate to the cause. The participating teams also made generous donations. This year they are targeting to raise at least $30,000, and attract a much bigger crowd.

Friday Fights: Brampton Excelsiors vs. New Westminster Salmonbellies
18 SepEven though we already posted it in the Mann Cup article earlier this week, this epic brawl deserves the spotlight in this week’s edition of “Friday Fights”.
Brampton Wins 2009 CLA Mann Cup
15 Sep
The Canadian Lacrosse Association’s Mann Cup has been in existence for 100 years. The cup itself is one of the most valuable trophies in all of sports, and is valued at about $25,000 (it’s made of solid gold). And if you know anything about Canadian Box lacrosse, the teams consider the Mann Cup a priceless possession.
The 2009 championship series was perhaps the best of them all. The 7-game series pitted the Brampton Excelsiors against the New Westminster Salmonbellies. The Excelsiors beat the Salmonbellies in four straight in last year’s Mann Cup in Brampton.
Game 1 of the 2009 series led to an epic bench clearing brawl that lasted 10 minutes. Five players from both teams, including both back-up goalies, were tossed from the game. The teams combined for 173 penalty minutes by the end of the night (see video below).
Brampton was down 3 games to 2 going into Game 6. Dan Dawson (who is also a star in the NLL), was a late arrival to the Brampton squad. He hopped on a flight at 3 p.m. ET and arrived about an hour before gametime, just in time for the warmup. Dawson scored the winning goal with 1.5 seconds showing on the clock in overtime as the Excelsiors beat the New Westminster Salmonbellies 9-8 and extended the championship to a 7th and final game.

Brampton Excelsiors, 2009 Mann Cup Champs
In Game 7, Brampton came from behind in dramatic fashion to win 9-7 in OT in front of a sold out crowd. The Excelsiors came back with two goals in less than 20 seconds to set up a nerve-racking finale. With just 16 seconds on the clock Mike Carnegie shocked the hometown crowd and sent the game into overtime.
Colin Doyle scored a shorthanded goal just 55 seconds into the non-sudden-death overtime to give the Excelsiors the lead. Brodie Merrill added another goal for Brampton with just 49 seconds left in overtime.
Anthony Cosmo stopped all seven New Westminster shots in overtime to give Brampton their 10th Mann Cup championship and their second straight title. The Salmonbellies were gunning for what would have been their 25th title.

Orangeville Northmen Lacrosse Win 2009 Minto Cup
31 Aug
The Orangeville Northmen won the Minto Cup this weekend with an 8-4 victory over the Brampton Excelsiors in a best of three-game playoff series for the Canadian Junior-A title. Brampton was shooting for its first Minto Cup in 50 years.
Adam Jones and Jesse Gamble each scored twice in Sunday’s deciding game for the Northmen’s second straight title and fifth overall. Jones, the tournament MVP, had 11 goals and four assists in the series.
Minto Cup History
The Minto Cup is a beautiful silver cup donated by Governor
General Lord Minto on May 31, 1901, for competition among the Lacrosse teams in the Dominion of Canada. The amateur status of the competition continued until 1904.
The cup was then placed under the control of trustees and in the possession of C.A. Welsh of New Westminster, B.C., the last surviving trustee. When he died, the present Lord Minto of England, whose father donated the cup, was informed of the circumstances. He officially transferred the Minto cup to the care and management of the Canadian Lacrosse Association, who placed it into competition for the Junior Championship of Canada.

Winchester, MA - Winchester ‘Them Apples’ took home the 2009 Olde New England Lacrosse League (ONELL) Championship last night with a narrow victory over Team CroArt by a final score of 10-9.
Team CroArt had been a dominant force in the ONELL, owning the title for the last three seasons. Winchester finished the year with a perfect record, going 10-0 in a highly competitive league

With under two minutes to go in the 4th quarter, CroArt netted a transition goal to get back within one. A few errant CroArt passes in the closing minute coupled with some strong defense secured the victory for Winchester.
