LAS: Growing The Game – Hochstadt and Ritz Talk LXM PRO

19 Nov

Jeff Brunelle over at Lacrosse All Stars sat down with the founders of the LXM Pro Tour for some insightful discussion on what this event is all about.  We’ve been reporting on LXM ever since we first heard the rumors back in July, but this piece is by far the most comprehensive take on it that we’ve seen so far.

We were admittedly apprehensive about this whole thing when we first head the buzz.  But the more we learn about it, the more it’s growing on us.  For the sake of the game and the future of the sport, we truly hope that that this does it justice. We don’t believe that it’s fair to say that LXM will dictate the future of lacrosse, but taking on the self-proclaimed mission of growing the game does carry some degree of responsibility with it.

Growing The Game: Hochstadt and Ritz Talk LXM PRO
An interview with the founders of LXM PRO.

What is the purpose of LXM PRO? What are the goals? Who’s behind it? Why should we care? These were the simple questions I was hoping to get answers to when I sat down to speak with LXM PRO founders Scott Hochstadt and  Xander Ritz on Sunday afternoon.

Ultimately I got those answers and much more. Chatting via Skype can be a battle in terms of getting to know the person on the other end, but they made an interviewer’s job easy. Hochstadt and Ritz were quick to get comfortable and openly share their vision for the event. Maybe that was because I told Hochstadt I attended a camp he coached at in Salt Lake City when I was in high school, but more on that later – Let’s get to the answers:

Top 20 Reasons to Skip LXM PRO

5 Nov

The crew at LXM Pro recently shared this with us…

lxm_pro_tour

You should skip the LXM PRO lacrosse / concert event on Nov 21 because…

  1. You want Rollerblading to take over Lacrosse’s spot as the fastest growing sport in the country.
  2. Mikey Powell (4x All-American, 4x Attackman of Year, 2x Player of Year, Syracuse’s All-Time Leader in Points) will come out of retirement & play in CA some other time.
  3. You don’t want the West Coast to be known as a national lacrosse powerhouse.
  4. $25 is too much for an STX Clinic, a college rivalry game, the return of pro lacrosse and a concert from one of the top artists in the world.
  5. Your lacrosse team has never lost a game and you won’t learn from watching others play.
  6. USC football has a bye that day and coach Carroll asked you help him scout UCLA.
  7. You’ve already been to one awesome blowout-concert + pro-lacrosse event, this month.
  8. Akon is too big for lacrosse – the only artist to have the #1 and #2 spots simultaneously in the Billboard Top 100…twice!
  9. There’s way too much buzz surrounding the event!
  10. You have nothing to learn from clinics by Kyle Harrison, Joe Walters and the rest of Team STX.
  11. You need to set your fantasy football lineup.
  12. Your coach doesn’t want you to get better in the off-season.
  13. You’re satisfied just listening to Akon on your iPod.
  14. Joe Walters (Maryland’s All-Time Leading Scorer) has already given you a shooting clinic.
  15. You won’t learn anything from watching great lacrosse players compete at the highest level…in person.
  16. You have no desire to be in an upcoming sports-film by Sports Studio, the people who brought you Miracle, Invincible, Friday Night Lights, and Remember the Titans.
  17. The four goalies playing at LXM don’t excite you (all former NCAA Goalie of the Year).
  18. Your lacrosse club doesn’t need the support of a fundraiser (groups@lxmpro.com).
  19. Your kids think you’re too old for a concert that doesn’t start with Jimmy and end with Buffett.
  20. …Because you don’t want to Buy Tickets Here!

LXM Pro Tour Lacrosse Showcase Launches in Cali on Nov. 21st

7 Oct

lxmprositeThe LXM Pro Tour website has been updated, and they have scheduled their debut for November 21st in Orange County, CA.

We’ve been following the latest news on the LXM Pro Tour ever since it was rumored back in July.  Since then not many details have been released, and their website reveals very limited information.

In August, we posted all the details we could dig up online to try and piece together just exactly what this event entailed.  Since then, the LXMPro.com website has been updated to announce that their first event has been slated for next month, and will feature the following:

  • LXM PRO features a “Showcase” lacrosse game highlighting the 40 best players in the world, an MCLA game featuring powerhouse Chapman vs. UCSB, live comedy and a BLOWOUT concert event featuring today’s hottest artists.
  • The combination of these unique elements, along with other engaging sponsor-themed activations, creates an “X-Games” meets “Lollapalooza” atmosphere in a new Festival-themed sports and entertainment event.
  • LXM PRO also features an on-the-field casting call searching for fresh athletic-actors to cast in upcoming Hollywood productions, Paula Abdul and her “Dance team” tryouts, LAX clinics, and much more entertainment through the day.

Not really any surprises, since day 1 this concept was dubbed “lacrosse meets music”.  What we’re interested in who will be representing the “40 best players in the world”, and what kind format they will be playing in.  So far we have been unable to find any details on the lax part of it, but we will post them as soon as we find out.
