Boston, Mass. (February 18th, 2009) – Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, today announced the contract signings of several of its top players according to Commissioner David Gross. Player contracts are currently being submitted for the upcoming 2010 MLL season which begins on May 15th.
The Boston Cannons, Chicago Machine and Denver Outlaws all lead the way with the most players to date who have re-signed their MLL contracts for this summer. Notable players from the Cannons include defenseman Ryan McClay and goalkeeper Kip Turner, while Machine stars DJ Driscoll and Doug Shanahan and Denver Outlaws Matt Bocklet and Matt Brown are also among players on those teams who have signed.
Bocklet, a third-year defenseman from Johns Hopkins, is coming off of a career year in which he was named to the All-MLL Team. Veteran defensive leaders Ryan McClay and DJ Driscoll will not only be helping their MLL teams this summer but also will be suiting up for Team USA in the World Lacrosse Championships in July.
The Washington Bayhawks have had several players on their pre-season roster sign contracts, including goalie Chris Garrity. Gavin Prout is the most prominent member of the Toronto Nationals to have re-signed thus far.
Ten-year MLL veteran Tim Goettelmann headlines the Long Island Lizards players that have signed, along with Ricky Pages who made his first All-Star Game last year. Goettelmann is one of the most highly decorated players in league history, having played the most career games (110) and ranking 4th all-time in goals scored with 230.
The deadline for all players to return their signed contract is Monday, March 1st, 2010 as the 6 MLL teams prepare for training camps scheduled to begin on April 24th.
