Giddy Up – NCAA Lacrosse Season Gets Underway with Televised Games
19 Feb
At last, the NCAA lacrosse season is upon us! Tonight be sure to check out Hopkins vs. Manhattan live on ESPNU at 5pm EST.
Johns Hopkins enters the season ranked fifth in both of the major national polls (USILA, Nike/Inside Lacrosse). Michael Kimmel had 20 goals and a team-high 25 assists last season, and he enters 2010 as a National Player of the Year candidate. Kyle Wharton, an honorable mention USILA All-American last season, tallied 34 goals last season to lead the squad, while Chris Boland recorded a team-high 46 points in 2009.
Other big games today include the Syracuse Orange vs. the Denver Pioneers at 7pm (game will not be televised). The Denver team, led by legendary coach Bill Tierney, will open up their season on the road against the returning champion #1 ranked Syracuse team.
