2009 Tewaaraton Trophy Winner, Max Seibald
NLL.com: Last year’s winner of the Tewaarton Trophy is likely to make his NLL debut this weekend. Max Siebald has signed with the Wings and placed on the club’s active roster. Wings GM & Coach Dave Huntley said on Wednesday that Siebald is expected to be in the lineup for at least one of the Wings games this weekend.:
Seibald, a graduate of Cornell University, holds the school’s all-time scoring record for a midfielder with 141 points (91G 50A). In his collegiate career he was named the Ivy League Rookie of the Year (2006); he was a four time All-Ivy Team selection (2006-09); and a two time First Team All-American (2008-09). He was awarded the Tewaarton Trophy in 2009 as the nation’s top lacrosse player, the USILA Outstanding Player of the Year and the McLaughlin Award as the nation’s top midfielder. He also led Cornell to the 2009 NCAA National Championship final, which was the team’s first appearance in the title game since 1988.
Seibald was selected by the Boston Blazers in the first round of the 2009 Entry Draft. The Blazers traded his rights to the Wings last week in exchange for a 2010 first round selection and future considerations.
Shortly after the trade, Huntley stated on the league’s weekly media call that the timing of Siebald’s Wings and NLL debut would be based on how quickly he was able to assimilate to the nuances of indoor lacrosse. On Wednesday, Huntley stated that Siebald is expected to play for the Wings this weekend. According to the Wings website, Siebald is listed as a transition player, and will wear uniform #18.
The Wings play at Toronto on Friday evening, then return home to host Orlando on Saturday. Be sure to watch Siebald’s debut live on The NLL Network at NLL.com.
