Winchester Wins 2009 ONELL Championship

Winchester, MA - Winchester ‘Them Apples’ took home the 2009 Olde New England Lacrosse League (ONELL) Championship last night with a narrow victory over Team CroArt by a final score of 10-9.

Team CroArt had been a dominant force in the ONELL, owning the title for the last three seasons.   Winchester finished the year with a perfect record, going 10-0 in a highly competitive league made up of teams from all over New England.

Winchester started off the scoring early with a goal in the opening minute of play.  Winchester was in control for most of the first half and at one point led 7-2.  CroArt then began mounting a comeback that trimmed down Winchester’s lead before going into halftime.

After a big rally in the 3rd, CroArt took the lead at 8-7.  Winchester then went on a three goal run to take back control of the game.  With under two minutes to go in the 4th quarter, CroArt netted a transition goal to get back within one.  A few errant CroArt passes in the closing minute coupled with some strong defense secured the victory for Winchester.
