High School Lacrosse: 2009 Power Rankings

12 Feb

UnderArmor and InsideLacrosse released their pre-season power ranking for U.S. boys high school lacrosse teams. I can’t seem to find how they come up with these rankings, so I guess we’ll have to trust that they have a fair system.

The interesting part about the rankings is the geographical breakdown of the top 25 teams:

It appears that even with the explosive growth of the lacrosse around the country, the Northeast still dominates high school lax.

New York State has eight teams in the Top 25, followed by Maryland with five, and New Jersey posted up three. Ohio and Pennsylvania both put up two teams, and the rest of the states only managed to get one team apiece.

Out of the eight teams from New York, six were from Long Island. Rounding out the New York teams were mainstay West Genesee (representing the Syracuse region) at #7 in the nation, and Yorktown was #21.
